Nexus, by “track hat” do you mean the clip with three silver reflectors that fixes onto the peak of a baseball cap, or the black plastic device with a cable and a USB plug on the end.

Depending on which you use, the scanner that fits on top of your monitor needs to be set up accordingly.

Let me know which you have.

Hi, stating the obvious, but have you tried plugging the clip into another USB, just to check you haven't got a malfunctioning USB socket. Also I'd purchase a TrackHat clip not a TrackHat Pro, because they are so flimsy and break easily. I managed to get through two, before I bought the TrackHat Clip, those things you can sit on, and they won't break, they are that sturdy.

Link to TrackHat Clip site: https://trackhat.org/

They do a wireless version as well.

If you connect the device to a known good USB socket, and, in a darkened room, look very closely at each of the yellowish glass circles on the front of the three prongs, you should be able to see, right in the centre of each a small red light, less that the size of a pin-head. Although nominally infra-red, you can see some of the light output within the visible spectrum.

If there is no red light visible, then the device has failed. If it is one of the 3 leds that has failed (very unlikely), it is not practicable to repair it. But if you purchased it recently, you should be able to return it for a replacement, or money back.
